FEES EXPLAINED:
The JUDGE’S EDUCATION FEE is mandatory ($2 per
horse). This fee is used to host judges’ schools around the country, usually
held at our Regional Shows. It is charged at every Regional Show and the
Grand National.
The USEF DRUG FEE is a mandatory fee
($12 per horse) it is used for drug testing of random horses at USEF shows.
The SUPPLEMENTAL DRUG FEE is also a mandatory
fee ($20 per horse). This fee covers additional drug testing of the majority
of the class winners.
The USEF BREED/DISCIPLINE FEE does not usually
need to be paid unless you are competing outside your discipline, or are a
Base member. (see explanation below). Check your USEF
card….if it states “May compete in Morgan” or “May compete in all
Breeds/Disciplines,” you do not need to pay this fee.
USEF MEMBERSHIPS:
All Owners/Trainers/Riders/Handlers/Coaches are
required to be a member at every USEF show (rated A)
that you attend. You may pay a non-member fee of $25 for each show you or
your horses attend; however, if you attend 2 or more shows, your money would
be better spent on purchasing a membership for $50.
The non-member fee is $25 for adults and $20
for junior exhibitors.
The membership fee for a Senior member with
Morgan as the chosen Breed/Discipline is $50. A Junior membership is $35.
If you do pay a non-member fee, the
breed/discipline fee is included with the $25 fee. Junior Exhibitors are
exempt from the breed/discipline fee.
When joining USEF, please be aware that the
“contributing” (non-competing) category of membership does not qualify you
as a member. Even if YOU are not showing the horse; as an owner, you are
still “competing” in the show. If you are a non-competing member, you will
be required to pay a non-member fee for every show you or your horses
attend.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are participating in
classes restricted to Amateurs—this includes the Classic Pleasure
division—you MUST have an Amateur card issued by the U.S. Equestrian
Federation. This means you must have a current membership with Amateur
certification, or possess a current non-member amateur card and pay the
non-member fee at each show you attend.
The breed/discipline fee is
for BASE members (if your USEF cards states “must pay breed/discipline dues
to compete” or for those participating outside their discipline—e.g. your
card states “may compete in Arab/NSH” and you are participating in a Morgan
show. You must also pay the appropriate breed/discipline dues (in this case,
Morgan) to avoid paying the $5 breed/discipline fee at every show you or
your horses attend. Basically, if you have paid at least $50 for the show
year (and checked the Morgan discipline) you are eligible to compete with no
further USEF fees.
AMHA MEMBERSHIPS:
Every Owner/Trainer/Rider/Handler must be a
current member in good standing of the American Morgan Horse Association, or
pay a $20 non-member fee.
SIGNATURES:
NO ONE under 18 may sign the entry blank.
Please do not sign the junior exhibitor’s name if you are over 18. There
needs to be a parent or agent signature on the entry blank for the junior
exhibitor.
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS:
If the show requests a social security number,
it is because they are required to send 1099 forms to those winning $600 or
more in prize money. If the horse is owned by multiple owners—e.g., Mr. &
Mrs. Joe Doe—the show needs to know to whom the social security number is
issued—Mr. OR Mrs.
GENERAL RULES:
It is a USEF requirement that copies of Horses’
registration papers, copies of USEF membership and AMHA membership cards be
sent with entries.
If you do not send this information in with
your entries, your entries may be refused and be subject to post-entry fees
upon resubmitting them.
The office staff does understand that at times
you might not have every single bit of information to send, (papers in
transfer, haven’t received cards yet) but please make an effort to send what
you have.
Having this information prior to the show saves
time in the office checking in for everyone……for you, the office staff and
the person in line behind you.
If you send ALL required information, you will
be invited to our Early Check-In day. This allows the people sent all
required information to be able to check in a half a day early and avoid the
hassle of waiting in long lines in the office. There MIGHT even be
doughnuts!! (isn't that incentive enough??)
TRAINERS:
All entry blanks must be signed by a trainer.
If your horse is at home and you are the owner and rider, that means you are
the trainer as well. Signing the entry blank as a trainer doesn’t affect
your amateur status.
The USEF definition of a trainer is:
Any adult, or adults who has the responsibility
for the care, training, custody or performance of a horse. Said person must
sign the entry blank of any Recognized Competition whether said person be an
owner, rider, agent and/or coach as well as trainer. Where a minor exhibitor
has no trainer, a parent or guardian must sign and assume responsibility of
trainer. The name of the trainer must be designated as such on the entry
blank.
