Entries are UP for the Morgan Grand
National!
The 2004 Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show
promises to be one of the most exciting and competitive events in the show's
thirty-one year history. Numbers were higher in 2004 with over 1,190 entries
going to press in the show's program. These entries represent some of the
world's finest Morgan horses from across the United States, Canada and Great
Britain.
Of the total number of entries, there are 181 stallions, 385 mares
and 624 geldings. The dominant color at this year's championships will be
bay with 734 Morgans of this trademark two-tone answering the call.
Chestnut will be the second color with 289 various stylish shades making
their way around the ring. The other colors include 84 black, 70 brown, 8
palomino and 5 buckskin.
The oldest Morgan entered was born in 1976. Ten other entries will
compete at over 20 years of age. There are 48 yearlings, 71 two-year-olds,
149 three-year-olds and 138 four-year-olds slated to compete.
Futurity French Command is the sire with the most offspring to
compete in 2004 with 37. Nobility is second with 28 get and Tug Hill
Whamunition has 26. Other popular sires include HVK Bell Flaire, Noble
Flaire, Tug Hill Commando, Man About Town LPS, Cedar Creek Harlequin,
HVK Courageous Flaire and Liberation First Star.
AFF Beulah and Carlyle Ten tied for the mare with the most
offspring. Each of these grand dams have six entered to compete in 2004.
These great Morgan horses will travel to Oklahoma City to compete
in over 250 classes for over $250,000 in prize money.
